Support

Feedback from family and friends can make or break you. Support carries far, but sometimes the non-support takes up residence in your brain (squashing down that support you do receive). My closest friends are always supportive. They’ve tailored meals served at an event for me, they continuously cheer me on while I struggle my way through this weight loss journey and don’t let me give up. But Family, oh family. Those folks can be the most challenging. Most of the time the people in my house are supportive. They eat the meals I cook for myself so I don’t have to cook multiple meals. They know that Friday’s and Saturday’s I am super strict with myself. However sometimes my family that doesn’t live here, they dismiss my efforts. The best example and why it’s so fresh is a dinner with my parents this weekend. They really just don’t understand my weight loss struggle. They don’t understand why I can’t lose the weight quicker and keep it off. Why I can’t stop overindulging in fo...

Make Your Meetings Matter

Image
Show up each week and you’re more likely to win at losing. Here’s how to make it happen. Weight Watchers meetings are so much more than stepping on the scale each week. You pick up lots of useful information, both from your leader and other members. Weight Watchers meetings are a welcoming community that help to keep you inspired and motivated. One of things we talk about in the meeting room is putting yourself first and this is a great way to do just that! “On the days that it’s the hardest to get to your meeting, are often the days you need it the most.”  We all know those days-the one where you “just know” that the scale is going to be up. But you don’t have to get on the scale. My leader always says - come for the meeting and then decide once you’re there if you want to face the scale. But it’s never “required”. The Weight Watchers Weekly quotes some figures that state how much more weight you tend to lose when attending meetings. I’ll be the first to t...

Assert Yourself

Asking for help from others helps you get what you need - and it can be easier than you think! In the beginning of July this was the meeting room topic.  How to assert yourself.  "Assertion is expressing yourself in an honest, straightforward way that helps you get what you need.  It shows you respect yourself and others"  Sounds like an easy thing to do, but many of us struggle with it.  Will we come off as aggressive, too assertive, will it make people shy away from us?  These are all of the thoughts that plague us during our journey.  It can be considered another form of putting others needs before our own.  If you are worrying how others may take your assertiveness, you may not be getting what YOU need!  Asseriveness is a skill, so it can be learned.  Once you've mastered being assertive in an effective way, you'll stop worrying about coming on too strong or just not making the request at all. "being able to respectfully but f...

Turn It Around

"A simple plan to reverse a small weight gain." A few extra pounds might not require a wardrobe overhaul, but they might signal that it's time to reassess your behaviors to stop the numbers on the scale from climbing.  It's always tempting to think that your weight will go in one direction....DOWN...until you reach your goal  Then you live happily ever after...right?  But that isn't realistic.  So it's important to recognize a gain will happen at some point and have a plan to reverse it! Doing those last two things - knowing a gain is bound to happen and having a plan in place help.  Why?  Because gaining, even the smallest amount can be upsetting and if you aren't prepared you can go off track.  (Which happens to me...every time...even with a plan)  Weight Watchers recommends that  weight gain of three to five pounds that's stuck over a few weigh ins should be taken seriously before it comes larger.  This is what they call your...
